  DIABETES  

Insulin, as it is known, is a hormone of pancreas that reduces levels of sugar in the blood. The higher supply of carbohydrates in the blood is causing much higher discharge of insulin. The second important application of insulin is the acceleration of the production of triglycerides that in effect raises the concentration of LDL cholesterol in the blood and sets back the freeing of fatty acid from B cells; in other words, high production of insulin favours development of atherosclerosis. The person on traditional diet produces more than 40 units of insulin per 24 hours, being on optimal diet the need is only 4 to 8 units of insulin. The officially recommended methods of nutrition are based on carbohydrates, and that in consequences prompts the increase of diabetes.
Diabetes type I and II are in essence two different diseases which appear as relative and absolute deficiency of insulin. The increase of diabetes in Poland from 0.5 % to 5% during the last 30 years opposes the allegation that diabetes is a genetic disease. In spite of common belief diabetes can be cured cheaply and relatively quickly by implementation of optimal diet.
During one or two weeks stay in "Arkadia"- Jastrzebia Góra from March to November 2001 an average of 10 to 20 patients had diabetes with different degree of advancement. All of them have accomplished considerable improvement.
In the case of patients with diabetes type II (NIDDM) who control well their sugar level and who take up to three tablets per day the curing comes quickly, usually in the time of up to three weeks on condition that optimal diet is correctly being complied with.
Diabetes type I insulin dependent ( IDDM ) is retreating more slowly. The patients start their optimal nutrition having blood sugar level of 50 - 300 mg%
( 2.8 - 16.8 mmol/L ).
The first positive effect achieved using optimal nutrition is a stable blood glucose level below 200 mg%. It is important to choose a proper quantity of carbohydrates and exact proportion between proteins and fat. Appropriate set up of diet will cause diabetes to retreat usually within up to three months.

A big therapeutic problem can be advanced diabetes type I. Till now I had twice a chance to see that somebody had managed to control the sugar in their blood.
Most often my patients are children up to 15 years old. First condition for treatment is that the whole family adopts optimal diet, if this condition cannot be fulfilled there are no logical grounds to start the treatment of the child.
Patients with diabetes type I require individual treatment and thorough training; in the case of children both parents should receive the training.
The basis is to establish the quantity of carbohydrates, and this can take a few days. Recommended daily dose of sugar is the smallest which does not cause the occurrence of ketosis. Quantity of protein, is very important as it can happen that the weight in grams of proteins is smaller than the carbohydrates. Usually everyday corrections of the menu will be necessary depending of the condition of the patient.
It is essential to pay attention not only to the sugar level in the blood but also to the urine test results because theirs parameters can fluctuate during twenty-four hours.
One of the unfavourable symptoms is a drop in body weigh of the young patient. This is usually connected with the ketosis.
Very often it is necessary to change the type of injected insulin, since the patient's organism destructs insulin.
Diabetes type I is the disease of prevalence of sympathetic system. It is helpful to use selective currents in treatment.
Both types of diabetes belong to the diseases, which require most of the knowledge, and they cause most of the problems.
In most cases the correct set up of diet, which should be strictly observed by the patient, is the right way to the cure.
